Undergraduates

Undergraduates in the Department of Physics study in one of the two majors: physics or applied physics. Apart from physics courses, our students are expected to obtain in-depth experience with experimental techniques, a solid background in basic mathematics, as well as suitable foreign language skills. Upon graduation, students will have mastered fundamental theories and research methods in physics, preparing them for a wide range of careers in the future, including research scientists, physics teachers, technical managers, and other positions in business, government, and industry that call for physics expertise. Students also have the option of continuing their studies as graduates in physics, astronomy, engineering, and other fields such as economics and management, etc.

Undergraduates in the first two years will follow the paradigm set by the pioneering Fundamental Science Class program, placing emphasis on both physics and mathematics. Starting from the third year, students can select either of the two directions for their future pursuit: 1. physics, aiming at doing fundamental research in the physics frontier; 2. interdisciplinary sciences, aiming at becoming scientists or engineers with well-educated background in physical sciences.
